Intended Learning outcomes

A. Knowledge and its application

On successful completion of the programme a graduate will be able to:

  • Assess the complex needs of patients and service users within a responsive and appropriate framework of practice
  • Apply a range of complex theories and approaches, including safeguarding, collaborative working, and leadership and management, within a health and social care setting
  • Reflect critically on a range of contemporary issues in practice and how these are informed by practitioner-based research and collaborative learning

On successful completion of the programme a graduate will be able to:

  • Problem solve and demonstrate an innovative approach to promoting practice change
  • Develop new opportunities within the health and social care sector through networking, working in partnership and collaboration

On successful completion of the programme a graduate will be able to:

  • Promote social justice and equality through their understanding of the importance of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice

Teaching & Learning

This is an attendance-based programme, although students will be expected to draw on work-related experience in either a workplace or vocational employment setting. Students will be taught for a minimum of six hours per week, and sessions will normally take the form of:

  • Lectures
  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Personal and small-group tutorials

Students will be given additional guided learning tasks to undertake between scheduled activities, including reflection, preparation for seminar activities, and wider reading.

All students will be allocated a personal tutor who will support students with their personal development through the programme.

The following assessment activities are used in this programme:

  • Research Proposals and Impact Assessments
  • Case Studies and Scenarios

In addition, students will be expected to undertake formative assessments, including presentations, guided learning tasks, and seminar participation.

Entry Requirements

Entrants to the programme should have the equivalent of 240 credits with a minimum of 120 at level 5 (Year 2). Accepted example qualifications are:

  • HND in Health & Social Care
  • HND in Healthcare Management

Non-UK applicants whose home language is not English must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English equivalent to an IELTS band score of 6 overall, with not less than 5.5 in any section in line with university policy.

Progressive Route on Completion

On successful completion of this programme, students will have further opportunities in career progression. These include (but are not restricted to) management positions within the health and social care sector (including private, voluntary, and statutory organisations). Students are also well-placed, on successful completion, to pursue further academic development via post-graduate routes. These include (but are not restricted to) Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding, Social Work, Nursing, Human Resources and Teaching.

Tuition Fee
