Nobody is better to pass on the advice of people a young entrepreneur in the world of business today than Stuart Maitland. At just 23 years old he’s already grown a strong reputation in the business community as a property investor and is CEO of The Maitland Group, all while getting his degree in Business Management.
What is a typical day for you?
I believe in the saying “the early bird catches the worm.” My typical day starts at around 4 am every morning with a gym session or a run, which sets me up for the day! After that, I like to tune into BBC News and catch up with everything that is happening in the world and more importantly the Business Analyst Course, while I catch up on my emails and connect with my team to plan my schedule for the day ahead.
What is the career path for a Business Analyst Course?
Generally speaking, a typical day is filled with conference calls and meetings – that could be anything from my Property portfolio to Young Enterprise Chair duties, political or media speaking requests. Once the ‘business’ has been taken care of, it’s time for me to focus on my University qualification – if I have a class that day, with my phone and tablet close to me at all times so I can keep my finger on the pulse.
I sleep no more than 3-4 hours per day, that’s what makes me what I think is a good leader, then I try and have 1 hour of normal life in the evening, where I phone my family and catch up with friends (which is very rare). I am a workaholic and I have been since I was 15 years of age!
What motivated you to get into the world of business?
Study of Business Analyst Course in London. Looking back on my childhood, I think I’ve always had the ambition to own something and be my own boss. Even when I was a junior chef, peeling and chopping vegetables for some of Scotland’s top chefs, I was still thinking about business and working my way up to be the best I could. In my opinion, anyone can make a success of themselves; it just takes hard work, blood, sweat, tears, determination and passion.
What does a Business analyst course consist of?
Who inspires you? I was always driven seeing other successful people living a nice life and I wanted some of that too, so I changed my full career to try and get there. No matter how well I think I’m doing in business, I can always find inspiration from other leading entrepreneurs, such as Donald Trump, Peter Jones, Levi Roots, Duncan Bannatyne, Glenn Armstrong and Charlie Mullins.
These successful business people are my role models and give me the passion and drive to become as or even more successful than they are! My motto is “surround yourself with the people you aspire to be like, then you will be successful as they will be pushing you all the time.”
What hobbies or extra-circular activities do you feel have helped you in your working life?
My business is my hobby, my passion and my life, I live for the business! It’s the life I’ve chosen, and although some people may call me crazy, I believe that this is the choice I’ll make and what, like many other entrepreneurs before me, will make me successful in life.
I enjoy attending networking events and meeting some amazing, talented and passionate entrepreneurs. That same ‘hobby’ has led to me meeting and knowing some great high-profile people. Your network is your net worth when you’re starting out in this business.
What do you know now that you wish you could tell yourself when you were just starting out?
That business really is a roller-coaster ride! One lesson I would share with myself is patience; when I was 18, I needed everything immediately. As I have matured I’ve also learned the importance of not rushing and remembering that sometimes, good things come to those who wait.
I was only very young when I first started my incredible journey, but part of that meant that I had to grow up fast and learn as I went. One aspect of my character I am credited on frequently is my willingness to listen and learn – to contacts, tutors and business peers – and for me, that’s a great characteristic I hope I never lose!
How do you measure success?
This is a tough question. All entrepreneurs are probably different and will measure success differently. For me, success will be when I have built multi-million pound businesses and come to the position where I can donate large sums of money to good causes and charities that I am personally passionate about and make a difference. Then I will call myself a true success.
What is your approach to effective networking?
For me it’s about the right connections in the room; being based in London means that I have access to attend high profile events where I know the best entrepreneurs will be. Networking isn’t just about a one-way sales channel – it’s also about learning and meeting peers that you can inspire to be – Learn from the best and you will become the best.
