Teaching & Learning

The learning and teaching strategies are designed to contribute to the achievement of intended learning outcomes which are clearly expressed at programme and module levels.

The general approach to enabling the learning process for most modules involves:

  • Lectures
  • Tutorials
  • Case studies
  • Class discussions
  • Presentations

The College has developed a Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle, through which the students can access lecture notes and engage with staff and other students.

Activities that can contribute to the Total Qualification Time include:

  • Classroom-based learning, supervised by a tutor
  • Work-based learning, supervised by a tutor
  • Live webinar or telephone tutorial with a tutor in real-time
  • E-learning, supervised by a tutor in real-time
  • All forms of assessment which take place under the immediate guidance or supervision of a tutor
  • Independent and unsupervised research/learning
  • Unsupervised compilation of a portfolio of work experience
  • Unsupervised e-learning

Assessment and Verification

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the center and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion-referenced based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. The assessor makes the judgment that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria.

The assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgment of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Entry Requirements

Mont Rose College recruits students of good achievement from all educational backgrounds. Proven previous exam results are the main criteria for admission to Mont Rose College. International (Tier-4) students also need to show the English language competence in order to secure admission.

For entry onto the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification, learners must:

  • possess a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) Level 5.
  • be 18 years or older at the beginning of the course or
  • be mature learners (over 21) with management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre regarding this experience prior to registering for the programme)
  • a current enhanced DBS Check/Certificate of £46.66 - should not have a criminal background, which might prevent them from working as a teacher with young people or vulnerable adults.

English Language

International (Tier-4) students must show proof of English-language competence through success in an English test or background approved by UKBA. They should have CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference) B2 level and above in reading, writing, listening and speaking. European Union students should also have good exam results or background in the English language.

Progression Routes on Completion

Achieving the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or continue their further study.

Tuition Fee
