At Mont Rose College, Student Services is here to support you throughout your student journey. Whether you need help with your studies, wellbeing, attendance, college life or personal circumstances, our team is available to provide guidance, advice and practical support.

We understand that every student's circumstances are different, and our aim is to ensure you have the support you need to succeed and make the most of your time at college.

Getting Started

Settling in at Mont Rose College

Everything you need to know in your first few weeks — from induction to enrolment.

Induction

The Student Services team provides induction for all new students registering at Mont Rose College. Induction provides you with essential information about your programme, College services, academic expectations, student support and campus facilities.

During induction, you will have the opportunity to meet members of staff, familiarise yourself with the College and learn about the resources and support available to you.

Please ensure you attend your induction session and bring enrolment documents that have been requested.

College Communication

Mont Rose College will communicate with students exclusively through their official Mont Rose College email addresses.

If you need to contact the College, you must use your Mont Rose College email account. All responses from the College will be sent to your college email address.

Please note that emails sent from personal email addresses will not be processed, and no response will be provided. We strongly recommend that you check your college email regularly to ensure that you do not miss any important official communications.

If you are unable to access your college email account, please contact the IT Team immediately for assistance.

Timetable

The Student Services team will send the timetable to your college email before the start of every new semester.

Your timetable provides important information about your scheduled classes, including dates, times, locations and attendance days.

Students should check their timetable regularly and ensure they attend all scheduled sessions. Any changes to your timetable will be communicated by the College where applicable.

Enrolment

The Student Services team supports students throughout the enrolment process, ensuring that you have the information and guidance needed to begin your studies at Mont Rose College.

If you require assistance with BNU enrolment or Year 2 enrolment, please contact the Student Services team for support and guidance.

Support & Wellbeing

Academic, welfare & pastoral support

Guidance and confidential support whenever your studies or personal circumstances need it.

Academic Support

Get guidance on academic matters, study skills, time management and academic challenges. Student Services can help you access appropriate academic resources, advice and support to help you succeed and progress throughout your programme.

Mitigating Circumstances & Support

Student Services can provide guidance and support if unexpected circumstances are affecting your ability to study, attend classes or complete assignments.

For further information and clarification, please read the Mitigating Circumstances Policy.

If you would like to submit a request, please complete and return the Mitigating Circumstances Form along with evidence to support your request to student.services@mrcollege.ac.uk.

Attendance

The Student Services team can assist with reporting absences, authorising leave, and providing advice and support to help you maintain regular attendance and remain engaged with your studies.

Please read the Student Attendance & Absence Policy to ensure you fully understand the College's attendance requirements.

  • To Report an Absence – Please email attendance@mrcollege.ac.uk before the start of your class. Include your full name, College ID number, date of absence and reason for your absence. Where available, please also attach any supporting documentation. Please allow up to three working days for the Student Services team to review and respond to your request.
  • Extended Periods of Absence – For extended periods of absence, please complete the Absence Reporting Form and email the completed form to attendance@mrcollege.ac.uk, together with any supporting documentation for your absence. Please allow up to three working days for the Student Services team to review and respond to your request.

Maintaining good attendance helps create a positive learning environment and demonstrates your commitment to your studies. Regular attendance is also essential for making satisfactory academic progress.

Student Welfare, Wellbeing, Pastoral Support & Buddy Scheme

The student Welfare team are committed to providing confidential support, guidance and a safe space for students experiencing personal, emotional or wellbeing-related challenges that may affect their studies or overall student experience.

Support can be obtained by visiting the Welfare Office on the 1st Floor or by contacting the Welfare Officer on Ext 1049.

Disability & Additional Support

The Welfare team also provides guidance and assistance with accessing Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), reasonable adjustments, additional support and appropriate resources to help you succeed throughout your studies.

Support can be obtained by visiting the Welfare Office on the 1st Floor or by contacting the Welfare Officer on Ext 1049.

Letters, ID & Travel

Letters, ID cards & travel discounts

Official documents, campus ID and ways to save on travel as a full-time student.

Letters

Council Tax Exemption Letter

Student Services can provide all students with a Council Tax Exemption Letter as confirmation of their student status. This letter can be used when applying to the relevant local authority for Council Tax exemption or reduction.

The letter will only be issued once you have started attending your classes and your student finance has been confirmed. Council Tax Exemption Letters are issued for one year at a time.

To request a Council Tax Exemption Letter, please email student.assitant@mrcollege.ac.uk with your request and attach the relevant supporting documentation:

  • Student Finance England students: Your Letter of Entitlement confirming that your Tuition Fee Loan has been approved.
  • Self-funded students: An employer or sponsor letter confirming that your tuition fees are being funded.

Please ensure the required documentation is attached when submitting your request to avoid any delays.

Proof of Study Letter

If you require a Proof of Study Letter, please contact student.assistant@mrcollege.ac.uk with your request. The letter provides official confirmation of your student status and current studies at Mont Rose College.

Other Student Letters

Student Services can provide official letters to confirm your student status and studies, where required. These may include Proof of Study Letters, Student Status Letters and other letters required for official or administrative purposes.

To request a letter, please complete the Letter Request Form and email the completed form to student.services@mrcollege.ac.uk.

You may be asked to provide supporting documentation where applicable.

The standard processing time is 5 working days. If you require an urgent request, a £10 administration fee will apply.

Student ID Cards

The Student ID Card serves as your official identification at Mont Rose College. It provides access to the campus, college facilities and library services. Your Student ID Card is issued during induction and must be worn and clearly displayed at all times while on campus.

Lost or stolen Student ID Cards must be reported to Student Services immediately. Replacement cards are subject to a £10.00 replacement fee.

Public Transport Travel Discounts

As a full-time student, you may be eligible for discounted travel on London's public transport network and on National Rail services across Great Britain. This guide explains two of the main travel discount schemes available to students and how to apply for each.

Transport for London (TfL) — 18+ Student Oyster Photocard

The 18+ Student Oyster photocard offers 30% off adult-rate Travelcards and Bus & Tram Passes, helping eligible students save on travel across London's public transport network, including the Underground, buses, DLR and London Overground.

Eligibility. To qualify, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.
  • Be enrolled on a full-time course.
  • Live at a London address during term time.
  • Be fully enrolled before submitting your application.
Please note: Part-time, distance-learning and online-only courses are not eligible for the 18+ Student Oyster photocard.

How to Apply

  1. Create a TfL account – Visit the TfL 18+ Student Oyster photocard application page, create an account and start your application.
  2. Enter your College details – When prompted, enter your College ID number in the required format: MRC/123456/HND.
  3. Wait for approval – Once you have submitted your application, the College will confirm your student status with TfL. Please allow up to two weeks for the verification process to be completed.
  4. Enjoy your discount – Once your application has been approved, your 18+ Student Oyster photocard will be ready to use for eligible discounted travel across London.
Important: You must be fully enrolled before applying. Applying before your enrolment is complete may result in your application being rejected.

National Rail — 16–25 Railcard

The 16–25 Railcard offers 1/3 off most eligible National Rail fares across Great Britain and is valid for one year. Despite its name, students aged 26 or over may also be eligible to apply as mature students.

Eligibility

  • If you are aged 16–25, you can apply directly. College approval is not required.
  • If you are aged 26 or over, you may apply as a mature student if you are studying full-time, normally for at least 21 hours per week and 36 weeks per year.

How to Apply

  1. Check your eligibility – Confirm which application route applies to you based on your age and student status.
  2. Complete the Mature Student form – Applicants aged 26 or over should complete the Mature Student application form and bring it to the College. The College will complete and stamp the relevant section to confirm your full-time student status.
  3. Submit your application – Apply online through the 16–25 Railcard website. You will need to provide proof of age, such as a passport or driving licence. Mature students will also need their stamped Mature Student form and student ID.
  4. Enjoy your discount – Once your application has been approved, you can use your Railcard to save 1/3 on eligible National Rail journeys across Great Britain.
Please note: Mature students aged 26 or over receive a one-year Railcard and must re-verify their student status with the College when renewing their Railcard.

Changing Your Studies

Transfers, interruptions & returning to study

If your plans change, we're here to make sure you follow the right process.

Internal Transfers

Student Services can provide support and guidance to students wishing to transfer between programmes, courses or study arrangements within the College.

To request a change of course or a change from morning to evening classes (or vice versa), please email student.services@mrcollege.ac.uk with details of your request.

Interruption of Studies or Withdrawal

The College understands that unexpected circumstances can arise that may affect your ability to continue your studies. If you are considering interrupting or withdrawing from your programme, it is important to seek advice and follow the correct procedures.

Seek Support

Speak to the Welfare Officer, Student Services or your Programme Manager for advice and guidance before making a decision about your studies.

Special Circumstances

If your request is due to circumstances such as illness, maternity, personal challenges or family bereavement, please provide relevant supporting documentation with your application where available.

Follow the Correct Procedures

Ensure that all required forms and supporting documents are completed and submitted correctly. Failure to follow the College's procedures may have implications for your attendance record, tuition fees and student finance.

Planning to Return Later?

If you intend to return to your studies in the future, it is particularly important to follow the correct interruption or withdrawal procedures. Failure to do so may result in financial consequences, including issues relating to tuition fees or student finance eligibility.

If you are unsure about your options, please contact Student Services before making any decision about interrupting or withdrawing from your studies.

Resumption of Studies

Student Services can provide guidance and support to students returning to their studies after an interruption or period of absence, including information on the required procedures and documentation.

Digital & Enquiries

Learning platforms, library & general help

From Moodle logins to library access, complaints and graduation documents.

Moodle & Blackboard

Moodle

Via Moodle, you can access your modules, assignments and session materials using the unique login credentials provided to you after enrolment.

If you require a password reset or technical support, please email moodle@mrcollege.ac.uk for assistance or call 1009/1011.

Blackboard (BNU Students)

Buckinghamshire New University (BNU) students will receive separate login credentials to access Blackboard, the University's online learning platform.

BNU students who require password reset or assistance with Blackboard should contact the BNU IT Support team on 01494 605000 or email IT@bnu.ac.uk.

Library Facilities

Membership

All library users must carry a valid ID card and present it to library staff upon request when borrowing books. This serves both as a form of identification and as access to library services and facilities.

Borrowing Physical Books

To borrow physical books, students can visit the Student Services team on the 5th Floor of Mont Rose House or the Ground Floor of Shakespeare House.

Books can be borrowed for up to two weeks. Extensions may be available, subject to the availability of the book.

Online Library Database for HND Students

The EBSCO Online Library is available to all MRC staff and students with a valid Moodle account.

Access Instructions:

  • Log in to Moodle.
  • From the Home page, select "Online Library."
  • Choose EBSCO Online Library to begin searching.

Buckinghamshire New University Registered Students

Students registered with Buckinghamshire New University must use BNU Online Resources to access:

Student Services can assist with general enquiries relating to your studies, college services and student experience. If you are unsure which department or service can assist you, please contact Student Services and we will direct you to the appropriate team.

Complaints

The Student Services team can provide guidance on the Student Complaints Policy and Procedure and support students in raising concerns or complaints appropriately.

If you have a concern, please contact Student Services for advice on the appropriate process and the steps you need to follow. Where required, you will be guided to the relevant complaints form and procedure.

Please ensure that you provide clear details of your concern and any relevant supporting information to help the College review your complaint effectively.

Graduation & Student Graduation Visa Documentation

Student Services can provide guidance and support with graduation arrangements and relevant student documentation, including letters required to support Graduation Visa applications.

Student Finance & Hardship Fund

Our Senior Finance Officer, Miss Arrani, supported by Student Finance Officers Mr Michael and Isfandyar Muhammad, are adept at adhering to funding regulations. They provide crucial assistance to students by validating eligibility criteria, aiding in Student Finance England (SFE) applications, and answering general queries. We offer dedicated support to all students facing financial challenges through the Hardship Fund.

Employability

The Employability Department assists Mont Rose College students and alumni in achieving their education and career objectives, enhancing skills for improved employability and career progression. Services include personalised job search advice, CV and cover letter evaluations, workshops tailored to specific student groups or subjects, and interview preparation sessions. We aim to help students reach their professional goals by providing invaluable skills and industry exposure. Moreover, our team provides extra-curricular services, including the opportunity for students to contribute content to the college magazine, Zephyr. This content may include business advertisements or creative writing pieces. Additionally, students can participate in the Angels Competition, a business competition organised by the college to nurture entrepreneurial skills.

Student Union

The Student Union (SU) is an important part of student life at Mont Rose College. It helps create a welcoming and inclusive community while providing opportunities for students to get involved, connect with others and make the most of their college experience.

The SU organises a range of social, cultural and academic activities, events and meetings, providing students with opportunities to meet new people, explore their interests and build lasting friendships.

The Student Union also represents the student voice by listening to students' views, raising concerns and working with the College to help improve the student experience. It provides students with opportunities to contribute to discussions and decisions that affect campus life.

IT & VLE Support

The IT Team provides comprehensive technical assistance to ensure that students' technology needs are fully supported.

Students may drop in to the second floor of Mont Rose House between 9.00 am and 7.00 pm, Monday to Friday or email your enquiry below:

Student IT Accounts

Mont Rose College will delete all student IT accounts within 90 days of course completion or within 90 days of leaving the College. This includes access to college computers, email accounts, Moodle, OneDrive, Google Drive and Microsoft Office 365.

Students are solely responsible for backing up and saving all personal data, coursework and other important files before their account is deleted.

Once an IT account has been deleted, the College will not be able to retrieve or restore any data associated with the account.

Registering to Vote

Registering to vote gives you the opportunity to have your say in elections and participate in the democratic process. As a student, it is important to understand your voting rights and ensure that you are registered if you are eligible to vote in the UK.

Being registered on the electoral register may also help you verify your identity and address when applying for services such as rental agreements, credit and mobile phone contracts.
